Eleven50/Opera is probably the finest nightspot in the city as it is trendy, attracts top tier European electronic talent but steers away from the American Pop and HipHop crowd.

And squeeky clean isn't what I want from a city...if you want a business, family city with no adult entertainment (and I dont mean strip clubs), and things to do...Atlanta is not the place. The ATL was never perfect but it is where I was born and grew up, and its full of contracting temp jobs, horrific traffic and bland entertainment.
If you want the bums gone get a mayor who is going to do something about it but outside of putting them in jail or forcing them to get on a bus and leave, I'm not sure what you expect in any city.

but Atlanta can take this goofy Mayberry image it seems to want and shove it! (IMHO of course)

I no longer live in Atlanta and I agree with you 100% and I definitley agree with you on the employment it really really really really really sucks. I know for a fact New Orleans has more culture than Atlanta that is obvious when I went there on 3 occasions.

But Alex Gidweon (Owner of Velvet Room, Compound & former Visions Nightclub (which is scheduled to open on Peachtree & 14th soon) has a great track record in this city...all of his clubs are/were successful and continue to cater to a diverse clientele which include Hip Hop, Pop & Top 40, all the popular genres for the under 35 set. He ==* VELVET ROOM *==, www.agentertainment, COMPOUND your Atlanta Nightlife. Nothing has EVER happened in any of his clubs and his company has raised the bar for upscale urban nightlife in this city.

Well, that is good we can hope for the best !

I guess I'll clarify and say Eleven50 was better. You could go and regularly see Armin van Buuren, Tiesto, Oakenfold, PvD, Hybrid, etc

And the temp IT jobs thing in Atlanta bugged the hell out of me. Everyone hires contractors, perm jobs are impossible to get in Atlanta (seemingly).

I was there a month ago they played hip hop from beginning too end ! There were only two rooms that played different music, one room played salsa and the other played techno. But the techno side doesn't even feel like a techno room it is so bright ( I mean White LIGHT ONLY). So I really didn't enjoy myself in that section so I mostly stayed on the hip hop side because it was dim with club lighting. But I know why they had the techno side so bright to stop the acid trips and ecstasy. But with a 2:30am cut off point I don't see how they would think anyone would want to trip anyway. The only thing that Opera has going for it is that they enforce a strict dress code. So strict, that it would almost be impossible for a hoodlum to feel comfortable.

Yes on Saturday they play Hip Hop, Pop, TOp 40 in the main room, Salsa & Techno/Deep House/Funk in the two main side rooms/venues. Opera' dress code isn't that strict, I've seen guys in jeans, designer t-shirts & tennis shoes in there on Saturdays. Of course they don't allow hats or athletic gear but it's not as tough a dress code as your implying.

Well, my friend couldn't get in and he had jeans and a button down shirt and some timberlands. They wouldn't let him in with the timberlands on at all. So he had to pay an additional $ 20 to get it which I thought was rubbish!

Or if you get one you have to take and put up with alot of Bull ! Like I did that is why I am not there today ! They act like they are doing you a favor for working for them. The leasing business was the roughest I mean rough as can be. You know they do contract work for that too ? Can you believe that, I couldn't ? Not to mention all the pyramid marketing and Sales/Loan officer jobs they have that are a waste of time. I mean who would want to work all day for some one and not make a dime or not be compensated? Atlanta has one of the hardest job markets I have ever seen unless you have a degree in a specialized field of some sort. And truly that doesn't even mean anything for some people. And the temp job situation that is just so they can fire you if they don't like the way you look or something about you. I was a victim to this and I was devastated at how some people can be so shallow. Also Atlanta is an at will city so if they do something to try to get you fired you will have hell at the EEOC trying to prove it or get help. I went to the EEOC it was like talking to a brick wall. And I know I had been done horribly wrong at one company!
