Lots of good areas for kids. We need more about you though. Job, price range, type of neighborhood you're looking for?

I know you will say you can't afford it, the hassle, the congestion etc. etc. But please consider someplace else in the northeast. You get more affordability here, but schools are questionable, crime will be as high or higher depending on location, and traffic on the highways is somewhat similar. If you're thinking of moving from NYC to Atlanta, please also consider Kansas City, St. Louis, Cincinatti etc. They are all in the same (minor) league when compared to NYC. Do yourself a favor and find a cheaper, safer, more family friendly location in the northeast such as in PA or CT or near Albany, etc. The culture won't be as foreign and you might be happier.
