Georgia Tech students stripped and tied up by robbers *| ajc.com

Alot of robberies in the Midtown area especially at Georgia Tech. Why are all these people robbing college students? Half of them are just as broke as they are. Midtown is a nice looking area but entirely too much crime is happening there.

Why do you all post the same topics everyday? Aren't there are already over 15 threads about the same topic? Stop posting about the same topic daily. If you want to know the answer go to Midtown and ask the residents

I live in Midtown, but on the otherside of the highway and have never felt unsafe. This area is really "West Midtown" and Georgia Tech students have always been a target. Tech does a decent job with security on the actual campus, but it's unfortunate ADP doesn't have more police presence in the area around campus.

Home Park has always been sketchy. I think the problem is that now the students living there may be perceiving the area to be safe and therefore not taking the proper precautions. My sisters lived in Home Park when they went to Ga. Tech in 1994 or so. They had bars on the windows, ant-carjacking things on their steering wheels, etc. It really hasn't changed much since then.

This really isnt that much different than a lot of other campuses, look at schools- Temple University in Philly, University of Chicago, etc. Students are easy targets because they are walking around at different times at night and really arent looking out. Many of them have in demand stuff like Ipods, smartphones, and laptops.

I think there is a homeless shelter that houses the robbers in that area.

This wasn't no routine stickup apparently. When someone has the boldness to break into a house, force the victims to strip, and tie them up it reaches a level beyond regular everyday crime. It's pretty ridiculous when home invasions occur within a couple miles of a city's main drag in an area that should be one of the safest in the city.

I think someone needs to set a precedent of blasting these thugs to kingdom come with a 12 gauge before they finally learn their lesson. The cops sure as hell won't lift a finger in this city.

Well look at the geography: Home Park is next to Northside Drive which serves as a kind of thug highway for crooks on Bankhead. 75/85 is on the other side providing a quick getaway for the Clayton County crowd that comes into town looking to score some new electronics.
