Chattanooga, TN is a quick drive -about 1.5 hours from my house in Roswell. The river area is very nice and surrounded by attractions such as the aquarium, museums, walking bridge, restaurants...

Outside the city is Lookout Mountain with a historic park, great view, Ruby Falls, the Incline Railroad and Rock City.

We have been twice this fall for rowing races on the Tennessee River and enjoyed the drive, food and having an easy mini-vacation that is easily done in a day or you can spend the night at one of the many places near the river attractions.

Happened to go to Knoxville this fall for another rowing event (in between the Chattanooga races) and thought Chattanooga had more to offer in way of things to do compared to Knoxville. Still, it was a pretty drive and not a big monetary/time commitment.

Also took trips to Stockbridge, Mass and New York City last month. It has been a busy fall!

I am in the Navy and only return home to Marietta every 4 or 5 years. When I do visit, I always take in all the sights around Atlanta and make a trip down memory lane. My pilgrimage consists of a stop in Helen, GA, then on to visit Greenville, SC. From there through the Blue ridge Pkwy to Cherokee, NC for a stay on the Reservation. After that, it's over the Smokies to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, TN. The last stop on my loop is Huntsville with a visit to the Space Center.
