Atlanta was never advetised on BET as a good place to find jobs. Atlanta has been hot for years due to corporate relocations and good marketing. Nothing has been advertisef on tv!

Interesting report.

It looks like Atlanta is sort of hypercyclical--it gains more employment during the US average during boom times and loses more during bust times

That being said as soon as I land at Hartsfield, the DREAD starts to come over me. The people in the airport look so slovenly, so overweight and SOUTHERN. Everybody moves slow compared to airports up North or in California or Canada.

But the real dread is when I arrive downtown at my hotel. The economic distress and effects of the Great REcession are EVERYWHERE in Atlanta. Boarded up buildings. Drunk criminals lurk on all the corners. Other then those poeple the streets are deserted because no one is able to walk in Atlanta either because the buildings are too far apart or they're too afraid of getting JUMPED! Like I was!

Eveidentally you dont have anything else to do either since your on here.. Lets here some more.. I simply cant get enough

Err Try living in NYC and/or LA - the larger part of the population there falls into this category. One frequently hears phrases like "I'm only doing this (wait tables, walk dogs, whatever) until I get a break". Here is a great LA joke - Man asks a woman "So what do you do ?". Woman says "I'm an actress". Man says" Great. So what restaurant do you work at ?".

It makes a lot more sense in New York or LA than it does here. Even though Atlanta's entertainment industry is starting to boom, it's still SEVERAL orders of magnitude below those cities. A lot of folks act like this is the new Hollywood but it's still got a long way to go.

Sure there are a lot of people like that in those places but there are also a lot more opportunities for that sort of work. All the people I knew in New York who were like that were actually able to find paying work with regularity. I don't know many folks who can do that here. There just isn't enough opportunities for it yet.

Well they might several levels of magnitude higher than Atlanta in terms of established show business BUT there are far more many people in either NYC and LA than could possibly get work yet that doesn't discourage people from arriving in droves seeking that dream. But ,yes, at least there is some history and tradition associated with going to LA and NYC to "make it" but the reality is that very, very few actually make it as working actors and even fewer as "name" actors, and even more fewer that achieve superstar status.

So basically people move to ATL to make it on BET, while people move to LA or NY to make it in the real world?
