I don't know about that school --but the public schools in that area are very good. You might want to try public and give yourself time to visit the various Catholic schools in the area. I know that the quality varies among the Catholic schools -- some are far better than others.

Personally I would say in Roswell and East Cobb your child will receive a much better education at public school. If you're worried about "bad public schools" then there's nothing to be worried about. If you want a private school for the Catholic education then that's another story of course... you won't get a Catholic education at public schools...

While not an expert in Catholic education, it is my understanding that Catholic education is very different in Atlanta than other places where Catholic education has a much longer history.

My friend is a realtor and has a client who wants their chlidren in Catholic schools. They came and visited some schools and couldn't get in the ones they thought were good -- so the wife is staying put with the kids for the next school year and they will go through the normal application process for the schools next winter.

You are lucky in that school starts here in 4 weeks -- so unless you are in the process of moving right now, you can come visit hopefully after school starts and see the different schools.

Default Reviews

I would strongly suggest that you visit GreatSchools.net
There you will find some wonderful, and some terrible, reviews of St. Joseph Elementary School. Most, however, are strong and as we all know so much depends on individual perception and experience. Here are two reviews:

"We were extremely disappointed in St. Joseph's Catholic school. The principal Mr. Kraft is now gone, but what school would have hired him in the first place is concerning. ... The teacher was terribly rude in the office as well. We have had many problems, HUGE problems, which led us to leave the school, St. Joseph Catholic Church, and the Catholic religion. My advice, explore other options!"

AND

"We are very happy at St. Joseph's. The school provides religious and quality education to our kids. The school follows thier mission and vision statement which is focus on student learning within a Catholic environment. The school leaders know how to run a good school. Thier classes are organized to challenge students to learn and perform. There are services at the school for health, tutoring, mentoring to help students develop and learn. ...We feel blessed that we belong to this community. It is such a wonderful opportunity for our kids!"

The great schools site is very helpful. Good luck-

T

St Ann's in East Cobb has a great Catholic preschool is you are interested. It is also a very nice community oriented church.
