I posted a pretty non-specific "moving to atlanta" post last night, which I got no replies to, and am not terribly surprised at that... but here's my more important and more specific follow up...

We are moving to Atlanta next week, and I am trying to get a grasp on what we're looking at for childcare with our 2.5 year old child. We currently pay $800/month in Richmond, VA for full time care. I had anticipated similar rates in Atlanta, but my research is showing numbers all over the place, some of which are way higher than I anticipated. Also, there is the the terrifying thought of not being able to find anything without getting wait-listed long term.

How much do people pay for full time childcare in the areas around Grant Park/Inman Park/Kirkwood/Cabbagetown/East Atlanta Village/5 Points/Decatur. We haven't settled on a part of town yet but this could be a very important factor.

We prefer non-religious environments but if the price is right we'll go anywhere that is a healthy environment for our child. We both need to work, but even if one of us could stay home I feel that frequent social contact with familiar people is very important at this age.

There is a Yahoo group called Decatur Mamas that you might consider joining. There are a number of working moms there and they are very helpful about sharing this type of information. Besides your typical daycare, there are a lot of moms who use nannies or nanny shares, and they use this list to network and share resumes. I'm not sure if I am allowed to link directly to the group, but go to the Yahoo Groups page and you can look up the mailing list by name and easily join.
