Default Expanding MARTA to Gwinnett & Cobb

I definitely think MARTA should be expanded. I am sick of paying taxes in DeKalb for Gwinnett to ride in to the Doraville station and take all the parking spaces. People from Gwinnett don't want to pay for MARTA, but they sure do use it!

Marta will lower your property value, bring in crime, and make the area look trashy. People from higher crime areas will have access to YOUR neighborhoods via Marta if its expanded to the suburbs. Its not unheard of for robberies to happen near the bus stop, then the criminal jumps on the bus. Guess what, Marta buses don't have cameras, good luck catching them now. Its a bad idea and I know for a fact it'll never happen in Cobb because of county commissioners.

You make me laugh TheFuzz. If you really believe that I don't know what to say. I know it is hard to believe but most criminals have cars - or they are not beyond stealing them! And they can get to ANY neighborhood by driving on roads! And these roads don't have cameras so they can just drive away after they commit their crimes! Oh the humanity! Let's get rid of all roads! Yes all those condos going up around Midtown and Lindbergh stations are really trashy.

One of these years the hyena/lion relationship between the suburbs and Atlanta will end. It has to, it just isn't sustainable.

Yeah, those multi-million dollar condos, million dollar townhomes, high-scale retail, and tons of office buildings around Buckhead, Lenox, and Perimeter Mall really look trashy.

Newsflash: criminals have cars. They can drive to YOUR neighborhood and rob you.

Well, maybe not MARTA rail, but BRT is a hot topic and is actively being pursued. I actually think that this will happen in Cobb in the next 10 years.

We have already been through this argument. Nobody has been able to give a single example of lower property values or trashy areas as a direct result of the expansion of Marta. As far as crime, yes criminals could use Marta, they can also drive. Transit isn't going to raise the crime rates in any of the counties and if anybody hasn't noticed, Clayton, Cobb and Gwinnett counties all have buses (limited but they have them) so if criminals want to get there and are limited to transit (because they don't know how to steal a car) they can still get there.

I have been on MARTA and I felt safer on a MARTA station(and train) than I do living in the northern Cobb County area. I was robbed in Kennesaw by some men. They got away in a vehicle. Crime can get anywhere without the help of MARTA. My concern is for the commuters who have to find work in other parts of the metro area.

Yes criminals drive cars, but what about criminals who don't have cars...ie. teenagers. Most residential burglaries are caused by teenagers who skip school during the day and enter your home while you're at work. By using mass transit, like Marta, you're giving them another way to get to your home.

You named the areas of "Lenox, Buckhead, and Perimeter." That's not even 1/4 of the areas that Marta goes to. Have you ridden to the other 3/4 of the stations Marta goes to? Plus condos and townhomes and high end retail aren't neighborhoods. A neighborhood home is going to be burglarized more easily than a townhome, condo, or apartment. I can go to your house during normal working hours and knock on your door. If someone answers, I just say I'm looking for Billy, and when you say that Billy doesn't live there, I just say I must have the wrong house. If no one answers, I walk around the back door, kick it in, and have my way with the interior of your home. You can't do that with a condo or townhome as easily. That's why you shouldn't bring Marta to the burbs.

Ummmmm, where did you get these statistics??? As someone who lives in the City of Atlanta where residential burglaries are up, I can tell you first hand these criminals are using stolen cars. We have had a couple problems in my neighborhood, we are NOWHERE near Marta. People come in your homes to take you Flat screen Tv,s and such. You can not honestly believe that criminals look at the bus or train schedule before committing these crimes. In regards to Marta rail, do you believe somoene is going to carry a 40 inch television through the gates, stand on the subway platform, and take the stolen goods away using the train? I am honestly concerned when people "think" they know the circumstances that contribute to crime, and believe false information. You are only hurting yourself, and putting yourself at risk.
