To me, Vinings most resembles its neighbors West Buckhead (Conway Rd/Mt Paran Rd) and western Sandy Springs (Heards Ferry Rd/Riverside Dr area).
Brookhaven looks more like Haynes Manor, Tuxedo Park and North Buckhead.
Vinings came up mainly in the 60's - 70's; Brookhaven, in the 20's - 30's.

I agree, I was speaking more location-wise though. But parts of Brookhaven were built in the 60s-70s, specifically North Brookhaven - Cambridge, Hamtpon Hall, Murphey Candler Park, Brittany.

Hi I am looking into the three places. I really like the quick access to I285 through Vinings.

But which areas (which road, or zip) are "true" Vinings? Thank you in advance for your answer.

Schools are about the same for MS and HS, although Dunwoody's elementary schools are more highly "ranked" (if you care about such things). Having lived in both, a bit of the luster of Vinings was taken off with all the high-density development over the last few years, but it is still a very nice area with some posh neighborhoods closer into town. I feel like Dunwoody and Sandy Springs have gotten a tighter grasp on development due to their cityhood status and more localized control (more so Dunwoody in this regard, which has always been strict on density and aesthetics in development). Vinings has a nicer commute into Midtown/Downtown, in my opinion, as D'woody/SS both rely on taking 400 (75 has more lanes and you can also easily get to town via backroads from Vinings).

Vinings is mostly 30339 but this covers the Cumberland Mall area as well

Smyrna just north of Vinings is 30080
