Visit WWW.BUCKHEADACADEMY.ORG

I know that there is a new private school opening August 2011 in Buckhead; Buckhead Academy. It is in its very early stages of development. It is for 1st-6th grade students. It's about 4 miles from Tuexdo so "traffic wise" its ideal. Also, I think this year they are accepting only 40-50 students. The website is Buckhead Academy of Atlanta, GA (http://www.buckheadacademy.org - broken link), contact them for more information. I think this will be an excellent alternative for your family; it's very small, interactive, and low-cost tuition.

My question is to the originator of this topic. Did you select woodward and if you did, what your opinion is about the diversity at the Woodward. If you didn't select Woodward then what school did you select and how has the diversity at the school you selected. I am an African American and would like to know about the over attitudes and cultures at the school you selected and or the private schools you are familiar with there in the Atlanta area. We are moving from the Northeast and are looking for Private schools for my 11 year old son.

Hi, I am interested in Woodward too. I am a little put off by the physical distance. We are thinking of buying a place in Marietta, but I think the daily commute will kill us all.
So are there any "nice" residential districts closer to Woodward? I mean nice safe suburban places, houses with yard.
We are thinking of making the move in Jan13. But I think the good schools are all full by now, so we may have to wait till Fall 13.

Yes.

Try the following areas:
1. Western Camp Creek
2. Sandtown
3. Cascade
4. Cliftondale
5. Outer Southwest Atlanta

Hi LionT:

We have recently finished the private school admissions process and live in one of the areas near Woodward (Cliftondale neighborhood). All of the neighborhoods listed by Aries4118 would give you pretty good proximity to the Woodward main campus.

In terms of diversity, Woodward is the most diverse (40% ) of all of the metro independent schools and several kids in our subdivision attend the school. Our daughter (who is quite a bit younger, 1st grade) was admitted this year, but was also admitted at another private school, which was our first choice. Woodward has a good reputation and offers a very competitive and rigorous academic curriculum. My husband and I loved the campus and we would have been fine with our daughter going there had she not been admitted to our first choice school. I would suggest that you go on Woodward's website and also perhaps contact their admissions office to get some idea regarding the admissions calendar for Fall, 2012, and plan to tour the campus, as well as go to the Open House, which will give you a idea of whether the school is a good fit for your child.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks ecm1969. We will be making a trip to Atlanta soon. We will have to start working on the details real soon.
Just a quick question. Typically, do schools hold places for you? If they do, for how long? We are in a bit of a bind if we are to move in Jan - middle of the school year
Oh yes, I did a quick web search on the houses for sale in Cliftondale. I see a lot of new houses in gated communities. Is Cliftondale a new area? Thanks for all the input!

Middle of the year is a nonstarter at all of the competitive schools as far as I know. Next admission season starts in October for fall 2013.
