I'd say this is a good thing as it underlines Atlanta's growing diversity.
State Rep. Rashad Taylor, D-Atlanta, has just become the first self-acknowledged gay man in the state Legislature. He stepped out of the closet during a morning press conference.

I'm having a harder time accepting the fact he blew his nose into his handkerchief and then wiped the top of his head with it than the fact he's gay and came out of the closet.

But bravo in terms of braveness to him. Generally speaking, the political black community is said at least, to be a bit less tolerant of it, so we'll see how this pans out for him with colleagues.

Well, I see Vincent Forte standing there with him, so apparently he's got at least some backing.

Apparently he had been accused by someone (who conveniently is not taking calls from the media by hanging up on them) of using his office to solicit sexual favors as well as being outed in a email chain sent to lawmakers in the Legislature a week or two ago.

He felt compelled to come out to clear his name. Seems like a good reason to me.
