I'm with you. I don't get the college thing when you have a playoff caliber NFL team in your city.

My guess is that college sports are popular here because both Tech and UGA have often had nationally prominent teams and because they both have so many alumni here. This is totally a WAG but I woudn't be shocked if there are well over 100,000 Bulldogs in metro Atlanta and maybe a lot more than that.

Thanks for posting that interesting article. It takes a slightly different tack than most articles about sports misery and tries to quantify the teams that have had the most chances combined with the least success. When you look at it that way, Atlanta is indeed near the worst.

The traditional way to define sports misery is teams that are just always terrible and never win the big one. Cleveland usually get the "top" spot in that type of survery, followed by places like San Diego, Buffalo and Milwaukee.

I'm not sure which is worse: to just always get crushed and rarely even have a chance at the big prizes, or to get close over and over and rarely be able to close the deal. What do y'all think?

Atlanta is better than Charlotte, Cleveland, and Seattle when it comes to all the pro sports. (NFL) Falcons > Panthers, Browns, Seahawks ... (NBA) Hawks > Bobcats, Cavs, Seattle doesn't have a team ... (MLB) Braves > Charlotte doesn't have a team, Indians, Mariners. I'd say Atlanta is alright in the sports department currently and years to come. And that's just a name a few other cities... I could probably throw Phoenix in there too.

Colleges don't threaten to move every decade or two. Or maybe you've never been on the receiving end of that in a smaller market town?

With the way the rest of the country (especially C-D) hates on Atlanta, maybe it's for the best that we also don't have winning sports franchises .... know what I'm saying?

With all due respect that stuff is meaningless to me. Having grown up a huge Atlanta pro sports fan I could care less about stuff like the chick-fil-a bowl. I want to see our pro teams dominate their respective leagues and win it all. However I realize I am a bit of a fanatic and in the minority. For me it's not about insulting Atlanta but wanting to raise the bar and not settle for good enough. Like I said tho I am a passionate sports fan. I realize the avg Joe could care less.

I'm moving to the Atlanta area this weekend and I'm hoping to become a Falcons season ticket holder. The Falcons are a superbowl contender and the Hawks are competitive. I'll take Atlanta all day over Cleveland and many other major sports cities.
