The LAST thing the Atlanta metro needs is another "edge city." When does it ever end....

Why? Doesn't the creation of an edge city shorten many of the commutes for people in that area of the metro?

No, because yet another "edge city" will emerge once that one gets established.

I don't think you know the understanding of edge city/Its actually a good thing.

Edge city is an American term for a concentration of business, shopping, and entertainment outside a traditional urban area in what had recently been a residential suburb or semi-rural community.
It means those are are becoming "cities".not sprawl.More density and the creation of urbanity that was not once there.Kinda like Alexandria in D.C.It has transit along with its own concentration of things that make a city compleate. Its just outside of D.C.proper.

Taking that to its logical conclusion, then, everyplace in the metro will be part of an edge city, so people should be able to move right next to work.

Wow, this looks like something you'd find in Berlin. Go, Mall of Georgia!!

Gwinnett is definitely Atlanta's high tech center.

I completely understand the concept of what an "edge city" is. My question was "does it ever end?" Just how many edge cities can the Atlanta metro area support, especially when its' not linked with transit like the example in DC that you provided (that's just outside of of DC proper, as oppose to being far out, mind you)? Don't you think that the region should be focusing on continuing to develop and densify the already well established "edge cities" that are closer in?

Going with your logic and the present growth pattern of Atlanta, Chattanooga will soon be an "edge city" of the metro area...lol.

Yeah, sorry for being silly. I can see how additional edge cities could cause issues through fragmentation, etc.
