From what I understand, this is pretty much a done deal. What are y'all's opinions on this?

Resident plans futuristic hotel near Mall of Ga.

Someone wants to build a big, distinctive (albeit odd-looking) hotel? I say go for it. I hope it happens. Better way to meet demand for hotel rooms than a dozen or so 2-story Marriott Courtyards and Hampton Inns sprinkled here and there.

That looks more like something out of some 1950's version of the year 1990 or something. Retrofuturistic or something like that.

Seems kind of pointless to build it so far outside the city.

Looks pretty cool to me. DTL I was thinking the same thing until we went looking for a hotel for our wedding. We went with the Renaissance Waverly because of a number of factors, and with us trying to get dates there, they were booked almost every weekend march-oct with weddings, conferences etc. Simple things like 3oo guests not having to pay $30 a night for parking end up making a big difference when everything else is factored in.

umm... I wonder if it would roll a way if we ever had an earthquake...

hehe couldn't resist

I think the hotel idea is great. I just think given it's size it would be better built further south closer to Gwinnett Place and Sugar loaf. At this time there are more businesses and transportation connections in the area.

I also wish it didn't look so odd. I like modern designs and lots of windows, but I also like it mixed with traditional designs that sort of represent security, longevity, and power.

I think it looks pretty cool, but what is the draw up there? Shopping? I don't understand the appeal of malls at all.

It can pretty much be summed up with this:
Cool design, needs a better location.

It does seem like an odd location. Not much to do around there except the mall and the Gwinnett Braves Stadium. Just seems kind of of the beaten path for a hotel like this.

As mentioned, there's nothing around there except a run of the mill shopping mall. How would they plan to keep that place full?

Yeah, I'm not really so sure on the design itself either. As far as need for it, I'm also not convinced. Outside of the stadium and mall there isn't a lot out there. Maybe they think they will get overflow from the arena?
