Question Military family thinking of moving to the ATL area from Hampton Roads Virginia. Pros and cons?

Hello,

We just retired from the Air Force and live in Hampton Roads, Virginia. We are considering relocationg to the Atlanta area because of less expensive housing. We can get the same house in ATL as Virgina, but alot cheaper. Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of moving to Atlanta? We have three children (two that will be in collegeand one in middle school.) We are government employees, so we are curious about job opportunites in that area.

Thank you!

Be prepared for massive congestion anywhere you go. Highways, airports, surface streets, everything. The thing that always amazes me when I travel and come back to Atlanta is just how congested things are here compared to other places. Other than that, it is not a terrible place to live. In town prices will be very high, but if you don't have to work downtown, then the outer suburbs, particularly West Cobb and maybe even Cherokee, could provide a good source of cheap, large homes. But again, if you are impatient, do not move to Atlanta. We are moving after 4 years here because of the traffic.
