Im about to move into this apartment complex within the next few weeks. For those who dont know its the old howard johnson hotel right on underground. I have heard some of the stories about living right there at underground, but i dont really have a choice at this point. The problem is we have to park at our own risk wherever. Does anyone know the closest parking areas to here?

Is this the hotel that was right next to the entrance of Underground? I wasn't aware they turned them into residences. Condos, apartments, or student housing?

Sorry, I can't answer your question as to where to park. I'd think if they were condos they'd have a dedicated lot (?). That is a rough area. It's bad enough at least perspectively, that the city has focused all of their attention on the Centennial Park area as the "new downtown" to steer tourists to, and pretty much have decided to let Five Points do it's own thing.

You didn't give details but said you have "no choice" but to live there, so I'll just give this advice: Make absolutely sure wherever you do park, that you never leave anything of value in the car. Nothing visible on the seats or in the glove compartments. While it sounds dumb, when in areas like this you can even crumple up some old junk mail sales fliers and a rag or two and scatter them about the inside of the car, making it look unappealing for anyone to want to break into. Most of all, if you're going home after dark, be observant to your surroundings.

If it used to be a hotel, where did the guests park? Not on the street, I can guarantee.

Please read what atlantagreg wrote. Read it several times. If you still think that you 'have to live there', then get a couple of room mates to walk you to your car. Mean biker room mates, preferably.
