When looking at the folly of building a stadium with tax payer funds everybody needs to read about the problems Cincinnati is having with its two tax payer funded stadiums. Specifically the football stadium that is used only about 15 times a year. The 1% sales tax to fund the stadiums is coming up short and there is going to be a short fall needed to pay the bonds.

Having lived in the Nati there is no way I would ever give my approval for another folly like this especially when the state is having huge revenue problems and is cutting funding for schools.

Ya know, reading those links made me think: why don't we let the Atlanta Falcons leave if they so desire and recruit the Cincinnati Bengals or some other team who's up on their stadium lease to come down here? Folks need to start taking some chances for once in their lives. Call Arthur Blank on his bluff, I'd say.

Sometimes it's good to allow a little free market pressure into certain situations, and this is one of them. Let the NFL and its various teams compete for the privilege of being in Atlanta, not the other way around. We need to stop letting the sports-heads who couldn't operate a hot dog stand to save their own lives and the politicians who live only for the polls, dictate to us Atlanta citizens how we should make our city successful on the international scene.

Let those Falcons go Mayor Reed, let those Falcons go. We can always recruit another loser NFL team with our Atlanta brand!

I've been to the Georgia Dome a few times before. It was like watching a football game in an airplane hangar. When the weather was nice and sunny outside, the light level inside was "cloudy." The location is good, though. Maybe they could just blow the lid off and give it an extensive renovation like they did to Soldier Field in Chicago. (It doesn't have to look like a postmodern UFO, though. *lol*)

I have to agree, Snake. Surely there is some NFL team that would love to take over the 8th largest media market in the country and move into a just-remodeled state of the art stadium that's ready to rock and roll.

Would you really want to walk through downtown Atlanta at night?

Anyway, one of my friends lives in Midtown Atlanta, and he said that a new stadium for the Falcons would be nothing but for pure vanity.

Therefore, I'm convinced that a new Falcons stadium won't happen until the next couple of decades.

By the way- I was at the GA Dome last weekend for Wrestlemania. On the outside and inside, the Dome looks passible. Better-looking than the Pontiac Silverdome. But I don't see anything "world-class" about it.

I do it all the time. Not that I emit the "don't touch me" thug appeal, of course. I'm as nerdy as they come.

I don't know, dude.

When I was planning my Wrestlemania trip, the people on Tripadvisor told me to stay at a hotel that is as close to the Dome as possible (which would be the Omni Hotel inside the CNN Center).

And my friend in Midtown told me about how students at Georgia Tech need to be extra vigilant, and how there had been murder at the Philips Arena MARTA station.

Well I guess I won't be able to change that point-of-view. I guess for myself I'm not gonna walk around in life afraid of my own shadow. I like to explore things, to enjoy the vast uniqueness of life.

You will never see me handcuffed to the safe yet relatively bland sameness of suburbia, except as an occasional place to rest my head. It's not a knock against you or your friends, by the way.

It's simply my perspective on life.

If there's ever a time you shouldn't be afraid to walk through downtown, it's immediately after a sporting event, when you're in the company of tens of thousands of other fans.

People don't have to be afraid of their own shadow, but you have to acknowledge there are certain parts of downtown where thugs and bums will accost people. We had a couple over Saturday and when they left they took the train to 5 Points. Just outside the station two young men grabbed the husband and tried to rob him. He is old but strong and he fought them off, but it left him shaken. This was about 7:30 pm.

I'm no stranger to cities but many of us who have lived here have encountered that sort of thing or something similar in the rough parts of downtown. You shrug it off and keep on going but experience and common sense tells you there are potentially dangerous places.
