Hmmm, I don't really consider "Black as Night" pejorative...(black male).

Well, let's look at the connotation. Lilies aren't normally viewed in negative sense. However, "coal" and "night" generally are (at least historically. And if not "night" so much, definatively "coal".) Black people generally don't get mad when someone uses a term like "chocolate city" because it does not have an inherently negative connotation. Now if he had said, "stark white", "ashy white", or "ghastly or ghostly white" -- then you may have had a point...

Bullbear has a point -- "lily white" is a racially charged term that would probably be deemed offense if the target were another race. No one would refer to predominantly black, Asian, Indian or Hispanic neighborhoods using that kind of terminology.

However, white people just need to get over it. They may not hold the upper hand now but in the past they did and this just goes with the territory.

Yeah, I'm white and it doesn't bother me to have those areas called lily white DTL3000. I'd probably describe it the same way myself to friends that aren't familiar with Atlanta. I've been called a lot worse anyhow.

We're not an oppressed minority so whatever people call us pretty much rolls right off our backs.
