No one has answered that yet.
I don't see how the black community (however that may be defined) has any special responsibility for this or any special duty to speak out. However, we do live in a city where blacks have traditionally held the leadership positions so you'd certainly expect our leaders to be out front on this.

More importantly, we all need to stand in solidarity against lawlessness and violence. We don't need anyone cutting slack or making excuses for this kind of conduct.

Again What can you do? Most of the stuff they say about black is inherited foolishness, but why they have an issue, that I have an issue with, it is what it is. You calling people names dont change the fact about how I feel about your lil ATL cousins. Ok SHAWTY? Lets call a spade a spade. You Mad?
Nothing to be mad about. Just sad for a brother who has so much self hate for himself and his race.

My cousins?

You seem to able to relate to their ignorance more than me...

That's not what they are insinuating from what I gather. They are saying that because a few people have acted like this incident is a sign of the sky falling or something that is unique to Atlanta and need to calm down and look at it in perspective.

For example, I remember there was a rash of attacks in NYC a few years back where groups of hoodlums would attack random people on the street with razor blades and cut them up. Some for gang initiation, some for "fun".

The realities of urban life are not pretty and a problem of our society as a whole, not just certain places.

I guess they just made this up as well......geez.

I've never experienced this but I guess since I'm black I have to adhere to this rule? I had no idea I was responsible for these guys because I was black. I had no idea I was supposed to know and keep track of every black person. I've always lived mixed neighborhoods also. Is there a white community?
Wow, you are extremely reactionary...I don't think my comment exhibited excitement whatsoever. If it did, then I apologize. I'm not excited.

People tend to use terms like "the black community", "the gay community", "muslim community" very loosely. It isn't a specific location (I was joking about the location earlier), but is normally used when referring to the general mindset of a minority sector of society. It is not often used accurately, since there is no way of knowing how an entire subgroup of people feels or thinks - not even the majority of an entire subgroup of people.
I think we got a good glimpse into the general mindset of the black community with regard to the justice system when the O.J. Simpson verdict came in....even the law students at Howard University were jumping up and down cheering....that was a breaking point for some of my more liberal friends, particularly in the legal community.

You might want to pack heat when you head down that way.

O.J. Simpson?

Let. It. Go. That was almost 20 years ago.

You are wrong, but apparently you have convinced yourself your way of thinking is healthy and productive for society as a whole. Good luck with that while the rest of the world leaves you back in the dark ages of thought when it was acceptable to think people acted a specific way based on the pigmentation of their skin.

Oh, I've been to the legal community before...it's better than the illegal community, but not by much.

Actually I live "down that way", or at least in the area where someone directed me earlier. It's very quiet and quite safe, so I've never needed to pack heat.
