Atlanta is smoke and mirrors and all hype and the people from here believe the hype thats why they can't except criticism.

To people like myself that statement sounds so ignorant it's baffling. I was attending college in Ohio at that time and I can't count the number of times I had young people talking about "Hotlanta" and how much they loved it's party scene.

By the time I moved back a few years later there were college and other young kids from all over the nation coming to Atlanta every spring to party. That's one of the reasons the music industry came here. A lot of the original artist and producers were from other parts of the country and had moved here partially because of the party scene.

We got a dude who lives in Alpharetta(speeddemonz) complaining about diversity, driving distance, Marta coverage among other things like stuff to do that don't apply to people who don't live out in far off burbs. His credibility was shot the second he said that malls that have the same stores as other cities are somehow behind two years in fashion....

Your original comment in this thread wasn't unreasonable. You stated your opinion without offensive or untrue remarks and it was not disrespectful. I didn't have a problem with it at all. But there are many on this site who would agree with you about Atlanta, yet don't present their opinions in an acceptable manner. That's where the possibility of immaturity creeps in.

You can count me as one of the Atlanta members who doesn't normally react harshly to respectfully stated opinions, no matter if I'm in agreement or not. There are of course some that do, but they aren't the majority.
Thanks for being level-headed. I admit I complain about Atlanta more than I praise it. Some of what I post is subtle exaggeration(oxymoron if there ever was one) and should be taken with a grain of salt. For instance, the line about hipster women was intended to be a bad joke. I guess I need to work on my delivery.

I haven't read the whole thread--I did notice the comment about 'smoke and mirrors'--mildly curious as to why you would say this.

When you decided to move here surely you did some research. I read a recent post that indicated a person from a midwestern state thought that there might be Mayberry like towns within minutes of commercial areas. What sort of information is circulating about metro Atlanta--I sometimes wonder.

Partying--I guess some people find ways to do that---never a high priority for me.

I guess my standards are 'low'--I've lived here for most of my life--things seem to be going in the right direction in general. I'd like to live near a beach--not a chance that Atlanta will ever be able to offer that option.

That wasn't me.

I never said Atlanta misrepresents itself or that anybody hyped it up to an extreme to influence me to live here. I grew up in north Georgia and I've lived in Atlanta for a while. I've also lived in other places and I've figured out that this city just doesn't do it for me anymore. It is improving in many ways but I feel life's too short to wait around for it.

I meant to quote the OP--sorry.

I know I would be happier at this point in my life elsewhere, too. My complaint du jour and for many du jours is lack of reasonably priced seafood restaurants--preferably located near the ocean.

At any rate I don't know how people can miss the obvious when making plans to relocate here--nothing very smoke and mirrors about what it's like, imo. Urban sprawl--there is no way to disguise that.

There are some pretty good ones - visit the Steamhouse at 11th and W. Peachtree or Fontaine's in Virginia Highland. They are reasonably priced. Of course, there are plenty of very good restaurants that serve very good seafood, that you may find not so reasonably priced.
