Default Virginia highlands---is it safe?!?!?

My fiancé and I were about to sign on the dotted line on a lease at Virginia highland apartments. That is until we found out someone was killed in that apartment complex. Was it a fluke incident???? We have a "back up" apartment in buckhead....but don't like the area as much. Is safety in Virginia highlands going downhill? Still worth it to live there for the location??

There was a crime spree last fall--culminating with a murder. They arrrested those involved and I haven't heard any more about serious crime in the area. Someone is stealing laptops --while they are used in coffee shops. Va Hi and/or Inman Park.

If you are talking about Trolley Square, TakeAhike touched on that. It was a very random, tragic thing that happened.

Va-Hi remains one of the nicest and safest parts of the city, regardless.

Virginia Highlands is always a desirable location to live. Regardless of what city you live in, you are going to see more crime in areas where there are extremes of economic areas living next to each other and/or easy access in and out of an area by transient individuals. As a result, many intown neighborhoods may have higher crime rates. At the same time, they have easy access to shops, restaurants, parks which makes them also desirable.

Va-Hi is no less or more safe than Buckhead, I would pay attention to whether the area is well lighted (inc street lights) and if the landscape is maintained (bushes trimmed) as not to create blind spots and you will be fine.
