McDowell was placed on administrative leave today. Between this brewing story and Derek Lowe's arrest for DUI, it is definitely not a good day in Braves Land. I wonder what Bobby Cox is thinking about all of this?

It's overall not a big deal.

The guy says something about gays, something negative, something that likely 80% of the population would agree with. Where's the problem?

Derick Lowe did wrong by driving under the influence. However, let's be real. Society says that it is okay to drink, yet keeps open bars and establishments that serve alcohol, often saying that it is okay to drink a few beers, but not to be under the influence. The problem is that everyone's response to alcohol is different. For some people, all it takes is one beer to "be under the influence" on a breathalizer test. For others, it is far higher. Since the society condones alcohol, and since the society condones establishments serving alcohol, and since the society condones having a beer or two and saying that it is okay to drive, as long as you're not under the influence, but fails to address the way different people's bodies respond to alcohol, don't you think that the system is set-up to bring about DUI's?

Now don't get me wrong. I do not drink, nor have I ever drank. In fact, I think that drinking alcohol is a sign of character-weakness, the sign of an individual who gives in to the pressures of society when there is truly no redeeming value of alcohol. That said, society sort of sets people up for failure through its somewhat contradictory set of expectations and/or legal system.

Folks like that probably.

Go back and reread my post. I was responding to the fact that the Giants fans will be hostile to the Braves. Jeez, it's bolded for Christ's sake.

Please read my posts and consider what I'm responding to before you misquote me.

Wrong. 80% of the population is NOT homophobic...this isn't 1980, at least not outside of your world. You might need to update your anti-gay references. Recent polls show that 53% of Americans support gay marriage. Reality does not coincide with your "80%" comment. Poll: Majority Of Americans Support Gay Marriage : The Two-Way : NPR

Besides it's already been noted that the homophobic comment wasn't the worst part of McDowell's tirade, but it's apparently the part that some people like to concentrate of for whatever reason.

If what is reported is true (and we don't know that yet), then McDowell is an idiot for having said it. Unless he has a history of this kind of thing, then a fine and suspension is in order. The alleged comment about kids alone is just bad for business, let alone the alleged comment about the other people.

The red flag for me is when Gloria Allred is involved. She is a publicity hound who just loves to get involved in politically correct things like this and try to crucify the person in McDowell's place. I'm inclined to give McDowell the benefit of the doubt solely based on Allred's involvement.
