Town Lake infor
Does anyone know anything about Town Lake in Woodstock? My husband (who will be working in Kennesaw) and I will be moving to the N. ATL suburbs - and though we could live anywhere (cost of housing is not an issue) we were impressed by the way it looked (cozy, comfortable, older homes) but we don't know how the people are. How kid friendly is it (we have two young ones), what is there to do for the kids? For the adults?
I've been told that the schools aren't great but after looking at the test scores they don't seem any worse (Bascomb and Etowah are distinguished - ranked at #54 and #18 in the state respectively).
We were in ATL for a week and managed to get to this area on the last night so we weren't able to do much except eat dinner and drive around a few neighborhoods of TL(Eagle Watch, Rose Creek, Wellsley). I'm clueless. I would like a local to enlighten me bit more...
Thank you

There has been a lot of discussion on this board about Towne Lake. Do a search and you will find relevant info.

Wow, that was really helpful. You are assuming that I didn't do a search already. The information on this board has been very general, stuff that I already knew. I was looking for the opinion of a local. Are you a local?
Towne Lake/Woodstock has a reputation - enough where my real estate agents are trying to get me to look in other "better" areas. They even went as far as saying, "no, no, no, you don't want to live there... those type of people live there" i.e. hillbillie's was their terminology. So, again, I want to hear from people who live there or have lived there - and tell me how they felt about it. I already know where it is and what it looks like but the people are what I'm interested in.

"Hillbillies" in Towne Lake? I don't know what area you're considering to be "Towne Lake", but from what I've seen of it, it's a fairly new, fairly upper-middle class neighborhood. We're staying in an apartment on Rt 92 (one exit south of Towne Lake Parkway) while our house is being completed, and I've been in the Towne Lake Parkway area a few times now- I didn't see anything that would make me think it was an undesirable area at all.

Living in Towne Lake
I live in Towne Lake- and can say after living here for one year- it's a great place to live for those with or without children. The amenities in most of the neighborhoods are really great. Esp. Towne Lake Hills/Eagle Watch. It's a very family friendly area with tennis/golf/playgrounds/socials/etc... My children go to Bascomb and it's been an excellent school so far. The test scores are very high (that's what sold us on Towne Lake Hills). The parent involvement is outstanding.
It's fairly close to Atlanta, only takes me 25-30 minutes without traffic. So no worries if you're like me and enjoy all the cultural things a city has to offer. All of the people I have met so far have been very nice. Mostly transplants with a few very friendly native Georgians. As far the hillbilly comment from your realtors- I would be very guarded about continuing to do business with people that are steering clear of entire area based on false generalizations! Most of the people I have met are college educated professionals.
We looked all over the Atlanta area, and really just liked the proximity of Towne Lake to the mountains (under an hour), to the city under 30 minutes.
Hope this was some help! Good luck with your search...

I totally agree. If a Realtor told you that "hillbillies" live there then you have two problems:
A Realtor that is "steering" you to another area who knows why...which by the way is illegal.
A Realtor is not allowed to state what ethnic/religious/race of people live in an area, they are legally supposed to tell you to look up the info thru the local school demographics, etc. ( I know a couple of Realtors) They can get in big trouble with the Real Estate Commission
That Realtor sounds totally unprofessional and by the way is lying. Towne Lake Hills is middle to upper class neighborhoods with two golf courses, clubs houses, resturants, and amazing amenities. The school are good and yes, there are tons of kids, and lots of kids activities. I think Towne Lake is great, the only drawback is the the homes are older (but you get the great mature trees and/or Engineer Corp property) in your back yard. Also keep in mind many of the homes were built in the 1990's so beware of synthetic stucco or even hardcoat stucco, poly pipes, and LP siding. Those are the main problems. Remember builders in Georgia are not license, nor are the home inspectors.
Good Luck

Thank you so much for the insight. I actually just dropped the realtors because I felt they were biased and judgemental after those comments. They didn't know us well enough to sucessfully "steer" us because we only trust the opinions of people who have nothing to gain. We are veteran home buyers but they didn't know that...
We drove thru the area and had dinner at a cute new Italian place (great Minestrone). We really liked Towne Lake. So, now I have to look for a new realtor...
Thanks for the info.
