As others have suggested, you should check out some swim and tennis neighborhoods, like Riverside or North Harbor.

I have also heard good things about North Springs, which is on the other side of Johnson Ferry and also has a neighborhood pool (Mark Trail Club). However, that feeds in Spalding Drive Elementary.
I'll look into those...but are they in Heards Ferry?

I am saying that for a young family trying to live in or near Atlanta can get you burned. Like those young people who bought into zip code 30318 can attest.

Of course, one mans trash is another's treasure. ymmv

Spalding Drive Charter Elementary is a good school--and it's a charter school. Lots of community interest and support. Lots of young families. Definitely give it a look.

Some helpful information:

Spalding Drive Charter Elementary School (http://www.fultonschools.org/school/spaldingdrivecharter/index.asp - broken link)

I hope this helps. Good Luck!

Riverside and North Harbor are both Heards Ferry. Highly recommend checking them out.

I have lived in Atlanta for over 20 years and my wife and I plan to get back to that area. As a native I can tell you that you won't find a more of family oriented feel than Riverside neighborhood.

If you look at Mountaire Springs(formerly Underwood Hills plus surrounding area) you'll find plenty of younger couples. The pool at Mountaire might be a good indicator of the number of kids in the area...it stays packed...waiting list for members, I believe. There are plenty of 1950s bungalows but quite a few modern infill homes built in the last 5 years. Many of our former neighbors attended Heards Ferry...not sure where the boundary lines are. The agent who handled our sale three years ago likely still lives in the area(she had been there for over two decades, I believe). PM me if you need a contact #.
