I own a home in ATL and a condo on South Beach MIA.
ATL = If you are black and have talent (valued by the hip-hop or R&B community) - you can find fantastic v. high-end and prestigious black studios and artists to hook up with here. It will take creativity and hard work to get an "in" but not impossible. Country? A joke. Go to Nashville.
MIA = Industry in MIA is suprisingly strongly biased against blacks and Hip-Hop as a general rule. There are exceptions and a few high-end new artists there to help. Miami Beach is a MECCA for unknown musicians who have TALENT. Owners love variety and outside-the-box creativity. If you are confident, persuasive, talented and (don't discount this: VERY ATTRACTIVE) - there are fantastic opportunities to get into small bars on South Beach. SB is superficial but real - true TALENT coupled with a ATTRACTIVENESS gets your foot in the door. Less competition during the summer months, so a good time to start networking with owners. Don't waste your time with nightclubs - all they play is euro-pop, techno DJ tracks. Downtown MIA - try some small live clubs, there is a burgeoning (but small) new live music industry cropping up for rock and alternative.
Good luck to you . . .
