Default Screen Gems Expands Lakewood Studio

Quote:
Executives said demand for studio space has exceeded expectations so the company has broken ground on a new 30,000-square-foot sound stage on the Atlanta property. Chris Cooney, chief operating officer for EUE/Screen Gems, said it will be ready early next year, in time for “pilot” season. That’ s when broadcast networks will shoot dozens of potential new shows for possible airing during the 2012-13 TV season.

(extra roles in movies/TV) - If you can deal with the small stuff and have the time on your hands to try to get a bigger chance sometime later, I say at least try ...

News that EUE Screen Gems is already expanding their Lakewood facilities is the exact kind of "behiind the scenes" industry happenings that is catapulting Atlanta and Georgia film and TV production into the stratosphere, and sent us soaring far ahead of the other 2nd-tier production centers (South Florida, Louisiana). If we're not No. 3 in the nation already, we will be by year's end.

Hollywood is a culture. GA is a cost cutting location.

That said, can't wait for the walking dead season2. It's nice to watch it and go "hey i was there!"

I don't know. Atlanta has long been an "artsy" place that attracts a lot of people into different arts and there is a little bit of a filming culture developing in Georgia. For instance, the Campus MovieFest is a movement founded at Emory University years ago and since it has spread world wide and become the worlds largest student film festival. Emory, University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, Georgia State and the AUC all participate in this festival and some of the students have turned out award winning short films.

These are just a few of huge number done by students at Georgia Tech every year.

The Art Institute joined the competition later. I didn't expect it but they produce some good work. They are a talented bunch. They definitely are learning stuff at the AI.

Some people are just negative and find the negative in everything. Can't help those people, glad the majority on here are optimists and seem to enjoy living in Atlanta. I hope that the folk that bash Atlanta will just move away and take their negative energy with them.

I forgot about the Art Institute. Actually they've been at it atleast since 2008. Here's another one I've seen from their students. It's starts off kind of corny but winds up pretty entertaining.

I think this one from Georgia Tech won comedy of the Year.

Is Georgia going "Hollywood?" Yes yes yes, oh yes...

I guess it depends on what you mean though... But I think Atlanta is turning into a Southern Hollywood. In the superficial culture sense...
