Hey all.

I was wondering which metro area you think is better to live in. Minneapolis or Atlanta??? Me and my wife have been comparing a bunch of cities to move to and we cant decide between Atlanta or Minneapolis

A little bit about us.
We are young social people who just graduated from College. We love the City Life with alot around and alot to do however we like a nice outdoorsy vacation area close by to escape home.

I know if you lived in Minneapolis you could just drive up to northern Minnesota and go boating on the lakes or go to Wisconsin Dells. However im not to sure about vacationing around Atlanta. All i know is the Smokey Mountains to the North and the Ocean to the east

Well, for one you'll freeze your ass in Minneapolis every winter. Atlanta winters are much milder with maybe one snow a year if that. We had an ice storm that lasted a week but those are rare. For outdoor stuff there is Stone Mountain nearby and the north Georgia mountains and boating on Lake Lanier.

So your options are...die during the summer or die during the winter...I say flip a coin.

The north Georgia mountains and lakes are a mere hour and a half from Atlanta plenty of hiking spots, river rafting, lake boating, etc. I love the north Georgia mountains and am sure you would too. Additionally, they are accessible most of the year. There were only a couple of weeks this past winter when we couldn't get to our cabin in Blue Ridge.

I do like hot weather. im currently stuck in Chicago right now where its freezing in the Winter and i hate it and i hate how expensive it is and how flat it is.

I do have alot of close friends in Nashville Tenn so if i lived in ATL if i drove up to visit family in CHI i could stop in Nashville which couldnt happen if i lived in Minnesota.

Also what is the public transportation like in Atlanta? is there a lot of Taxi Cabs midtown/downtown?
and what is the marta rail like? if i do move here i plan on moving to this place i found on the internet called "MIDTOWN MILE" where theres a marta station close by

Seems like the answer couldn't possibly be more obvious. How did Minneapolis ever end up on your list!?

I personally would choose Minnesota and the Twin Cities over Georgia and Atlanta, but it would be a VERY close race (and tough decision) for me.

Both metro areas are vibrant, educated, diverse, and varied in terms of the types of places one can live, and both states are quite varied in terms of geography (especially from north to south) and have many beautiful natural features within driving distance.

I find it interesting that you dismiss Minneapolis so easily, but I've gone into some depth about its advantages over Atlanta in previous threads. Of course, Atlanta has its own serious advantages.

I never dismissed it, Mpls. would be 100 places ahead of Atlanta for me. I was respomding to the OP...

Hates cold
Loves heat
Hates flat terrain
Has friends and family in Nashville

And they're even considering moving north ftom Chicago???

Then Atlanta is for you.

Atlanta wins again.

Yes, midtown and downtown have a lot of taxis.
MARTA rail is good. If your preferred Atlanta place is near a rail station, winner winner chicken dinner!. The rail lines will get you to a lot of Atlanta's best places. There is even a Publix within walking distance of the Midtown MARTA station and you can easily get to Lenox Square or Perimeter Mall.
