Moving to Decatur
I need all the information I can get about Decatur, Georgia, especially the area around Emory University. Can someone recommend housing, restaurants, entertainment, etc?
Thanks,
Mary Jane

Hi Mary Jane,
Have you visited the city of Decatur's Website? It's pretty nice and answeres most of the questions you are asking.

Decatur actually encompasses a very large area. Downtown Decatur is great. Lots of nice restaurants and great bars. They have a great town square type area. In the spring they have a great art festival there and they have one of the best firework shows on the 4th of July.
It’s very close to Atlanta and some of its neighborhoods like Oakhurst, Va-Hi, or Kirkwood, depending on what direction you are coming from. Decatur is basically Atlanta’s little sister.
The outskirts (N. Druid Hills, East Lake, and Avondale) are old suburbs, but now considered to be "in town" because you are inside the perimeter, so it's not like living out in Gwinnett or Cobb county. They are still very convenient, but I would try to live as close to downtown Decatur as possible as it is actually pretty pedestrian friendly.
For entertainment, or you are over 21, try The Decatur Social Club, you can google it. It's very popular with 20 and 30 something’s.

Thanks for the information. I wanted to get a feel for the city before I actually move.
