My school sent me a fine for a lost text book, which I turned in during the last week of school. It demands 80 dollars, or they would not send out my report card. When I went to the school office, I saw a stack of report cards. The office was stormed with phone calls complaining about fines on textbook. I know there must be careless students who forgot to turn in books, but the report card stack was literally 6 inches high. With today's economy and Fulton county schools short on fund, I reckon this might be a conspiracy to get funds for education. It would work in a form of selling bonds. When the county gets more money, the textbooks would be "found" and our money would be returned.

This is my reasoning based on a few observations, please discuss and tell me your thoughts.

When I got a similar bill for my son, and he swore he had turned the book in, I refused to pay unless they let us check the storage facility. My son had written his name inside the book. Did you? Without that proof I'm not sure how you could fight this. In our case, the book was located, and the fee was dropped.

Mistakes do happen, but if you are sure you turned it the book, and your name was written inside, you should prevail.
