Nigeria is the fourth-largest exporter of oil to the United States. Two-way trade in 2008 was valued at more than $42 billion, an 18% increase over 2007 data. Led by machinery, wheat, and motor vehicles, U.S. goods exports to Nigeria in 2008 were worth more than $4 billion. In 2008, U.S. imports from Nigeria were over $38 billion, consisting predominantly of oil. However, rubber products, cocoa, gum arabic, cashews, coffee, and ginger constituted over $70 million of U.S. imports from Nigeria in 2007. The U.S. trade deficit with Nigeria was $21 billion in 2007. Nigeria is the 50th-largest export market for U.S. goods and the 14th-largest exporter of goods to the United States. The United States is Nigeria's largest trading partner after the United Kingdom. Although the trade balance overwhelmingly favors Nigeria, thanks to oil exports, a large portion of U.S. exports to Nigeria is believed to enter the country outside of the Nigerian Government's official statistics, due to importers seeking to avoid Nigeria's excessive tariffs.
Nigeria also has to be the largest exporter of email scams to the United States.

Anybody who becomes a victim of a Nigerian email scam deserves it. Ive gotten those bizarre, poorly written and absurd emails. Only a moron would fall for it.

You should take notice of this rather critical statistic:

(Nigeria) Per capita GDP (2009): $2,300

Here is where it ranks:
Intl Monetary Fund: 132 of 183
World Bank: 137 of 181
CIA: 139 of 192

For comparison, the US ranks between 9 and 12, with a per capita of ~$47k

Your obsession with me has entered a creepy new phase. Now your involving me in your gay fantasies. What would that shower-needing wife of yours say (if she even exists)?

tiger84, where are you getting your information from? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...y_GDP_(nominal). This link doesn't work well, but click on the link then the page that says List of countries by GDP (nominal) to pull up the table. Or you can google it and you'll find the same information.

Intl Monetary Fund- ranks Nigeria 41 out of 181 countries
World Bank - 43 out of 185
CIA - 41 out of 190

They will surpass So. Africa in a few years.

Arjay57, all Nigerians don't scam people. But don't understand how people could get scammed. Who would believe some random person is a princess that needs money wired into their account? But that hasn't stopped countries and companies from doing business with them so the problem must not be that big of an issue.

No, of course not. But not all Nigerians participate in exporting oil, rubber, cocoa, gum arabic, cashews, coffee, and ginger either. Nonetheless we refer to to Nigeria as an exporter of such things.

You are confusing GDP with per capita GDP. The latter is GDP divided by total population. Given countries are of many different sized populations, it is the better method for comparing apples to apples.

Note that in your previous post the per capita GDP was at the top of your list. My source was the same place as yours - wikipedia. (Countries ranked by per capita GDP.)

Nigeria ranks higher in total GDP because of its large quantities of natural resources, especially oil. Regardless, overall its population of 152 million is among the poorest in the world (~bottom 25%).

I think you're confusing total GDP with per capita GDP.
