Hello everyone,

I am considering moving to the Parkview area of lilburn and will be working in the downtown area. Does anyone have an estimate of howlong it would take to get from this area to downtown during rush hour traffic in both the a.m and p.m? I am considering this area or central- to east cobb area with a good school system. I am favoring Lilburn as my mom lives there. However my priorities are a mix of somehat affordable housing, travel time and then school system. If you could reccomend a better area meeting these prioroties please reccomend away.

If you take 78 It may take you between 30-45 minutes depending on the time you have to leave for work.....78 can be off the chain....backed up at times. Again depends on when you leave in such. Parkview is still a highly requested school. East Cobb....not sure about the affordability factor there...seems to be pricey. Have you considered Tucker or Decatur?

I would suggest living in Lilburn in the Parkview district. You would get more for your money. Parkview is a highly ranked school, one of the best in the state. East Cobb is significantly more expensive than Lilburn. Plus the commute to East Cobb could be just as bad as a commute from Lilburn even though East Cobb is seemingly closer.

Default Lilburn Parkview

I live in Lilburn but we're leaving soon. The area is running down fast because of "White Flight". The schools are still good but not the best as stated earlier or as good as they were just a few years ago. We think that in a few years the school district will no longer be considered one of the best but considered medium at best. The number have been droping by 2 to 4 % in all areas every year.

Can anyone explain what this means. The area is running down fast because of "White Flight". I am also considering moving from south florida to somewhere in Georgia. Probably somewhere in Gwinnett County.

Default White Flight

When an area that is mainly populated by whites begins to become populated by immigrants, blacks, asian etc. The White people leave in rapid numbers within a short amount of time, say 5 to 10 years. The area soon becomes less attractive to live in because of many factors.

In this case, 10 to 15 years ago the Parkview School District was an all white school and WAS the best school to go to. Other non whites began moving into the area and since, crime has gone up, home values have begun to decline, the schools (Parkview, Trickum, and Camp Creek) no longer rank as the top because the scores are not as high as they once were, the county pays less attention to the area and begins to focus on other more popular areas. Basically the area has peaked and now is not such a great place to live.

Understand?
