the little five points thing i have always noticed, i spent many tender years on those streets and hepsters are generally not the friendliest people, but that's true in LA too, unless you are in venice, where people practically try and adopt you into their tribe if you hang out on the boardwalk for more than a half hour.

another thing that is pretty noticeable, and atlanta, pay attention- STOP JAYWALKING! i have never been in a city where so many people act like they are allergic to crosswalks. they'll stand like 8 feet from the crosswalk and the light is green and they are wanting to dash between traffic. do that in LA and you will get a ticket, or killed. (i am not bashing los angeles btw, its a great place with loads and loads of friendly people, but its expensive to live there).
LOL! How ironic. I was just looking at this video of rapper T.I. driving around Atlanta and in the first 2minutes the interviewer ask him about Atlanta and do the drivers drive so fast because of NASCAR. T.I. say's he doesn't know what he means. Then finally breaks down and admits yeah they do drive fast.

I think it is probably friendlier than it was before due to the transplants from other places. Though I do like Atlanta, I don't feel that people native to this area are all that friendly. I am from the Midwest and though people don't smile often there, they are friendlier, more helpful, and exhibit better customer service in a business environment especially IMO. A lot of clients and vendors comment to me at my job that I am extremely friendly and helpful and are surprised that I am not from this area being that everyone believes in "southern hospitality." Personally I don't believe in southern hospitality, but I am biased being that I receive horrible customer service in probably 80% of my interactions with people in this area. I am very nice and social, like the OP and go out of my way to be helpful and do expect good customer service and an average level of friendliness when out in public, so maybe my expectations are too high. It especially bothers me though how rude people are in retail and other business settings, much moreso than a rude, loud person on the street.
