Hello Metro ATL - Are there any places to vacation within a 5 hour driving radius of this area? (preferably 3-4 hours away) Atlanta (Alpharetta) is darn land-locked, which depresses me. I used to live in South Florida, and Central Florida before that. There are so many cool destinations within a 2-5 hour drive....not to mention the ocean/gulf/beach is always a short drive away. I just don't find that here. BTW - It does not necessarily have to be a beach destination, and I don't camp. Will appreciate your suggestions. Thanks....ink!

Hilton Head Island, SC takes us right at 4.5 hrs even w/ a couple of nosepickers in the back seat.

Quaint little place w/ lots of bike trails, an adequate beach, and good golf.

We still have a place in Highlands, NC and can't wait to enjoy a 15-20 degree 'improvement' in the high temperature this summer.(In Austin we've AVERAGED 100 degrees this month so far!) If you like mountain roads and vistas and don't mind a three-hour drive, there's plenty to do in that area of NC. We're making the 1100-mile drive next month!

The state parks in Georgia are wonderful places to get away to . Most are just a few hours from Atlanta and offer some nice places to stay. Some of them have beautiful lodges and most have cabins to stay in.
Go to the Georgia State parks site and take a look at what each one has to offer.
