Not all of clayton is horrible, but as a whole Riverdale has some serious issues. Clayton country schools are failing terribly as a whole as well. There are other affordable neighborhoods for similar prices (Stockbridge is wonderful, McDonough, Fayetteville, ect. ) on the southside. I hate telling people not to move somewhere but I would consider other options.

I lived in Fayette County (but had a Jonesboro address) from 2001 - 2005. If your looking for southside areas, I'd recommend Fayetteville or Peachtree City. My kids went to Fayette County High and had no problems. I commuted to Cobb County which wasn't fun. If looking North, I'd look at Cobb and Gwinnett.

Riverdale Crime?
My friends, who until recently were with the Clayton County Sheriff's Department, say crime is much too high there to even consider it. They recommend Fayette county (except far-eastern Fayette near the Clayton county line where the criminals have been making forays into the county to indulge in daylight burglaries) and Coweta County. We were recently up there researching the area and fell in love with Newnan. The schools appear to be on par with Fayetteville's and you can get much more for your money. As soon as the real estate market improves in Miami & we can sell our house, we'll be there!

NO NO NO! I grew up in Riverdale/Jonesboro area and it once was nice. Clayton County's crime rate has definately went up and the element is horrible now. I watched it go straight down over the last 10 years. Try Stockbridge, Hampton, or McDonough

Be careful with Stockbridge, though. I taught there for a year, and I am telling you, yes, to some extent I defend Clayton County because I live here, but, I guess the "undesirables" are flooding into parts of North Henry (Stockbridge). Most of those kids came from those "horrible Clayton County" schools.

Moving to Georgia from Michigan
I am considering moving to Geogia in April 2008. I was checking out the Morrowood Townhouses in Morrow. I am concerned about crime. I have two small children. Does anyone know about these townhouses or the Morrow area?

Clayton County/Riverdale
Terrible schools--on the verge of losing accreditation; highest foreclosure rate in the atlanta area; high crime...look elsewhere!

If this is not a good city, could you please advise as to which city or town that is not too far from atlanta is?

Morrow as a whole is pretty iffy. That is where Southlake Mall is located and it is really having some issues. Downtown Morrow itself is not too bad, but most of the area is lower end apartments and crime can be an issue. Also as has been mentioned, schools are about to loose accredidation meaning home values are expected to drop.

Is Riverdale a good neighborhood?
HA! Surely you jest..
You might as well move into Cabrini Green... (if they hadn't torn it down that is)
Riverdale might make a good SIXTH RUNWAY for ATL Airport... highest and best use.
College Park, East Point or Hapeville any day over anywhere in Clayton would be a wiser choice if you want to live south.
