So I heard the freeze was lifted a few weeks ago and that they are supposed to be hiring a few hundred teachers. When are they going to start advertising the openings? I moved here in the spring and really need to secure a job for the fall.

Check the county website www.gwinnett.k12.ga.us I'm not sure if they post the jobs there, but you may get contact info anyway - doesn't hurt to look them up and call - be proactive!

I did see an article, I think it was gwinnettdailypost.com that mentioned them hiring several hundred teachers.

I have already done my online app and check the website daily. I'm wondering where those hundreds of jobs are!

What are you certified in? Mathematics, Science, and Special Education are always in high demand. You might even try going up to the schools. Unlike other states or districts within Georgia, the principals have a lot weight in deciding who will be hired.

I am certified in elementary, middle school social science and reading. I tried going to some schools but couldn't get past secretaries so I left my resume. I just don't understand why they aren't posting jobs.

Schools need 530 teachers (http://www.gwinnettdailypost.com/education/headlines/Schools_need_530_teachers_124141849.html - broken link)

Here's the link. Seems Gwinnett is doing quite the shuffle with "allocations" and such, just like my district down here in FL. We are hoping to move back to North GA soon, but we want to let the dust settle regarding layoffs and such first.

Try e-mailing them directly. You can get their email from the school websites.

I'm near Orlando. My husband just lost his teaching job (back on annual contract since we moved back). The pay and benefits are much better in GA (at least for now).

They may be waiting until closer to registration time - they can get a more accurate count of how many students will be at which schools. There's an awful lot of people moving around right now during the summertime!
