Hardworking, committed people who care deeply about their children and their communities. They stick to it and make sure things get done right in their school.

I don't know exactly. I guess they are just typical human beings who want their kids to get a solid education and their neighborhoods to be successful.

Unfortunately, APS was a punching bag for Jay Leno last night in his monologue. Great...

All you folks with "STEP UP OR STEP DOWN" signs in your yards, it's time to get out the duct tape and tape over the "STEP UP" part. It's too late for the board to step up. Stepping down is the only reasonable option at this point.

I thought the exact same thing the other day. They should re write them, "Step down or Be Forcibly Removed."

I'll bite, how about the majority of the student body are not living below poverty level? The main issues though is parental involvement which Arjay has already addressed. They are schools in tight knit communities that are heavily involved in their school and children's education.

Yep, parental involvement is crucial because it is absolutely necessary to address the other major issues: qualifications of the teachers, lack of money/resources, and the politicized, bureaucratic, broken school administration. These can only be fixed by organized parents who refuse to take no for an answer. Unfortunately, most of Atlanta, and most of other cities that have the exact same problems with underperforming schools, don't have that.

And what happens when poorly educated students become parents (and become teachers! -yikes!)? They don't know what their kids are missing, and are less likely to complain. We are literally dumbing down the population.

I dont put the responsibility on students or their families for this. It is the TEACHERS, and their enablers/administrators, that are at fault and who should be prosecuted.

The question that should be asked, is from where did these teachers obtain their values? How is it that they, charged with leading and educating youth, and being somewhat of role models, could be so utterly, morally bankrupt. "Cheating Parties" at teachers' homes, indeed. Disgusting.

I dont care how much "pressure" was applied from above. If a teacher cant choose correctly when given a choice between obvious right and obvious wrong, there is no hope for whatever culture produced these honor-less people.
