I'm just curious as to what the "cure" is gonna be.
No Child Left Behind is an umitigated failure. Basing a teacher and a principle's performance solely on a student's performance on the CRCT and other standardize testing mechanisms isn't much better.
Now this will be just one more albatross for the the Atlanta bashers to hang on the heads of the everyday APS teachers & staff who work their hardest to serve the students but are caught up in the partisan pissing match. I can only hope that there will be a willingness to look outside the box for solutions...solutions that can be adapted to all students regardless of class, ethnicity, or other heritage.
I can't wait to see what sort of "leadership" steps up to the challenge.
LOL I don't think players and pimps care one tiny iota about the school system here.
I really hope this mess gets sorted out and everyone involved fired/indicted immediately. The good schools in the system should not have to deal with this garbage.
Ah...but are there good schools? People here jump to APS' defense if their quality is questioned when newcomers are seeking a school for their children. Stick with Cobb and North Fulton.

Obviously...we need to spend more money!
I think we are just patching and putting new paint on a "lemon car". There are solutions "out there" but there is refusal to do them because the teachers' unions oppose the right reforms. See the documentary "Waiting for Superman" to get some perspective on this.
What is the best education system we have now? The University System of Georgia. I suppose we can't follow that exact model but we can promote their principle of greater competition for excellence among our schools.

Of course their are good schools, people jump to APS defense only when posters like the OP in this thread make blanket statements indicating the entire school system sucks. Cobb and Fulton have their own stinkers as well. You couldn't just say, anywhere in Cobb is WONDERFUL!
If you're going by test scores alone, Cobb nor Fulton are even high performing systems overall for 2011. Buford City, Decatur City, Cherokee, Forsyth and Fayette counties best in show based on test scores, so if you're going to suggest systems and not schools, those are actually the best ones.

Anyway, Atlanta is the real loser and the poor black children. Nobody with good sense is going to put their kid in that system. But, there are lots of folks without good sense.

Absolutely there are great schools in APS. Springdale Park, Sarah Smith I and II, Jackson, Mary Lin, and Morningside are exceptional and ranked as high as any in the state. (They've all been cleared of any involvement in cheating).

They've all been cleared of any involvement in cheating, and are dearly loved and supported by their communities. Many parents who could easily afford to send their kids to school anywhere choose these APS schools. My own grandchildren go there.
