Hello everyone -

I am close to putting in an offer at Castleberry Point and was hoping some Castleberry Point or Castleberry Hill residents can give me some personal perspective on both the building and the area.

Some categories of interest are:

Noise - is it as bad as what this thread makes it seem? Can you hear your neighbors through the wall?
Convenience - is traffic bad when there is an event at Phillips/Dome?
Entertainment - I noticed that there are a lot of empty retail spaces there, are there plans in the near future for anything exciting? Grocery store, more restaurants?
Safety - has there been any break ins? Any sort of crime?

Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I had lived in Castleberry Hill several years ago. I liked living there in a loft, though most of my friends didn't care for the choice.

Noise is definitely a factor. Sirens, yes, for sure and there are some traffic issues for sure. In the winter time, you will probably hear the train whistle at night; it is relatively close by.

I don't remember where Castleberry Point is, but I assume it is in that general area.

You will have to deal with a possible car break-ins, that is part of living in Downtown and/or working there. Crime is definitely a factor, but I did not feel unsafe for the most part.

You should go on a loft tour (open house) and talk to some people who already live there, you will get all the pros and cons.

I think the area is improving overall for Downtown, but only at a gradual pace.

One thing I did not care for is for some involved shopping, I had to go to midtown or to the Kroger on Howell Mill. You have to drive out for a lot of your shopping.

Good luck in your decision!

Thanks SW30303! Question about the train, does it run all night? Castleberry Point is on Nelson St. and the unit I am looking at looks directly at the train tracks (accross the street). I am worried that it might be too noisy and thus hurt resale value.

You're welcome, NTATL.

Trains run 24/7. I would definitely avoid buying something that close to the tracks. Keep looking!

I don't live in Castleberry hill but I work in the area. There is no schedule for the trains - they aren't terribly frequent but they do run at all hours of the day. You'll also hear a lot of sirens. Not only is it near a fire station, but also the federal court buildings, where they bring a busload of inmates accompanied by (noisy) police escort at 7:30 every weekday morning.

That said, I think Castleberry Hill has really good potential. I'm thinking of moving into the city myself and this is one of the places we've considered. If you like art galleries, restaurants and wine bars, and you're OK with the intermittently sketchy vibe, it could work well for you. According to WhatNowAtlanta, the local shopping is improving, including a new natural-food grocery and gourmet dessert bar.
