Well, there are a lot of well to do people in Atlanta who could donate for a new carving if they want to.

The carving on Stone Mountain is fantastic. It took many decades to complete, and it pays respect to our historical confederate leaders, such as Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, and Jefferson Davis. There's a lot of pride in that carving.

It is a part of our heritage, good or bad.

I agree. You don't want to mess with the original carving. But there's plenty of room if folks want to raise money for an additional carving.

Perhaps they are YOUR historical confederate leaders but they are certainly not mine nor are they any part of any heritage that I wish to claim.

My favorite part of the light show is when they project MLK's face over the carving.

I feel that you have been fed a hostile perspective of the South and the Civil War, when in reality the South just wanted to be left alone, free from federal intrusion, as was outlined in the the confederation style of government under the constitution. We also had the right to seceed, as stated in the Declaration of Independence.

It's also history and a great piece of art. If you don't like it, perhaps because you're not from the region, or your family history is one of relative newcomers, then you really have less of a say about it.

It's only a true statement in some areas of the metro.
