Again, we are back to what constitutes a Mecca. I think meccas are simply "desirable destinations that are experiencing substantial growth in a particular demographic.". So, one city can have fewer of the demographic than another, but that doesn't mean it's not a Mecca. At least, that's what I've gleaned from C-D threads on Mecca topics....

The OP specifically mentioned it alongside New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle. Sorry, but it's not on those levels for a Mecca.

Its only growing in gwinnett and it has to do with supplying asian foods. Wholesalers and the like.

CA is where it is at. SFO, LA and so forth.

If you say Atlanta is an Asian Mecca, so are LA, SF, NYC, DC, Seattle, Houston, Dallas, and Chicago because they all have larger and faster growing (numerically) Asian communities than Atlanta. Are they simply all Asian Meccas?

I'll say it again, I love Atlanta and it has a booming Asian population and is the center for Korean culture in that part of the country. But it's no LA or SF or NYC as far as Asian culture is concerned and its there is not one statistic or fact to say it is.

Yes, exactly. What's the problem with that?

LA 274,228 290,682 RANK 1
NYC/NJ 193,312 219,165 RANK 2
DC 71,757 68,887
SAN FRANCISCO/SJ 65,957 75,808 RANK 3

By 2020, there will be 72,783 Koreans calling Atlanta home. I esimate that Atlanta metro will be the 4th highest korean population in the country next to San Francisco/ San Jose by 2020.

NYC, LA, SF attracts all Asians (Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Filipinos, Koreans, Indians etc.) Why is that the Atlanta is attracting a certain segment of Asians mostly Indians and Koreans. Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Filipinos seem be very underrepresented toThe Atlanta metro area compared to the Koreans and Indians.

Why is that??? any opinions and theories why this is?

Alright guys. My mom is visiting me from Chicago for 5 days and I want to impress her to take her to some the best Korean / Japanese restaurants in the Atlanta metro.

Please list your top ten for the best Korean dining in Altanta including Kalbi BBQ places.

I would definitely say Myung Ga Won in Duluth is one of those in the top ten.. I like the high end image of a 24 hour Korean restaurant sort of like the ones you see in Kangnam.

Myung Ga Won - Duluth, GA

Any one else..????????????

Bingo. I don't think at any point during this thread has anyone suggested that Atlanta was THE place to be for Asians or that there weren't other places with more prominence.

Asian Americans make a very small percentage of the population, so where Asians are concentrated in high numbers can all be seen as Meccas.

Another stand out for Atlanta is that we are by far the most prominent city for Asians for the entire Southeast (which Texas is not a part of). That's no small thing.
