Lisa, I know working for the school system means more kids...but you are right they are not yours! They go home! I drove a bus for gwinnett county for a year. It worked out well on the daycare end...which is why I did it.But if driving isn't your thing, maybe substituting is. By the way, they do help you get your CDL.I understand that can be an expensive undertaking on your own. Whatever you decide to do, the best is to know you do have a lot of options! See ya soon!

Hey Karen,
Thanks for all your help.
Still checking out the job market(potential for me anyways hubby is all set and OTR) ...My big thing now is the school my daughter is suppose to go to is SMS and although I know parent involvement is KEY I worry about the stats. They DID however improve this last school year and if it continues for this school year they will be off the NI list. They are a school that has to offer either tutoring or choice, so I am trying to figure out what schools are in that "choice" so I can see if that will work just incase. Then a car becomes an issue. I guess I just have to take one step at a time lol..Sept 15th give or take a wk or two(later) is our moving goal to Snellville. I cant wait!!!!
Thanks again for everything. I would have posted sooner, I didnt see your posts to me till this am...Dont know why they didnt "flag" me like they have been...Maybe cause I changed my email..I dunno I did it on the city data profile to though so that should be it..Oh well SH lol...Take care..Lisa

My family and I are considering a move from Gainesville, FL to Snellville or Grayson, GA. I have been researching the area and one thing that I noticed is that there are a lot of homes up for sale. Is there something going on that has people leaving the area? Are there issues within the schools?

There are a lot of homes on the market in Gainesville, FL, but that can be explained by high prices and high property taxes. Many people, such as ourselves choose to rent rather than pay thousands of dollars each year in property taxes and homeowner's insurance. In Snellville and Grayson, there are so many homes with lots of square footage at affordable prices, that I can't imagine why anyone would want to leave!

Snellville is a very growing area with access to everything, because of its location. If you are just wanting that perticular area and not set on living in Snellville they're plenty of great options. Brookwood (Lawrenceville) and Parkview (Lilburn) high school areas are some of the best school districts in the state. They are really great communities, especially with kids. Grayson is a very good community and with its location and school systems would make an excellent choice. Any of these locals are great for commuting to Atlanta. There are tremendous shopping and dining areas around. The Avenue at Webb Ginn House gives you a big time mall in the area. The Mall of Georgia is 20 minutes away. Great restuarants are everywhere. All these areas have great atheletic programs in the schools and publically, for every level. With Hwy. 78, 124, 316, 20 and Interstates 85 and 285, you can access all of north Georgia or the Atlanta area within an hour. This area is growing tremendously and will continue to for years to come... Let me know if I can help in your search for the right location for you...Bill

Hi there,
Its Lisa(nibseysgirl)...I am finally here in Snellville...Love it...Have had some minor issues with plumming in the house we are renting but that is it...Landlord is very nice, she is a sweet lady and her daughter oh my ...I want to scoop her up and kidnap her lol...JK ..she is a cutie though..ALMOST makes me want another...but then I remember that that cute 3 yr old will soon be a preteen of 11 and my gray matter returns from its jello state lol...
Snellville is so nice, the people are so friendly and I just love the area I live in. And we have our own lake in the back yard and my daughter and husband love to fish so they are in thier glory..Weather is awesome and I can feel the stress of living(or existing should I say) in florida melting away...I am so glad we made the move. My daughter is adjusting to SMS and we are starting to househunt soon...
I cant wait to be able to be able to go and visit different areas, alot of fall festivals and community events happening locally and further out so I am going to get to know people, places and things more and more...I have only gotten lost twice since moving here 2 wks ago(almost ended up in ALTANTA uggg)....but have found some good restraunts(have any other suggestions pass em along ..I have not found any "true" southern style restraunts yet) and the local libraries are pretty good. Taking a treck to a park (which one I dont know) and the local Y this weekend I hope....I hate moving and getting to know where everything is but somehow this time around it seems to be not so stressful. I am so blessed and grateful..I just love it here...We should get together sometime as you are local too...Just thought I would drop a note and say hi now that I am somewhat settled...lol
Take care
Lisa

I love Grayson and Snellville(30039). I cant say enough good things. I rent at the moment but we are looking to buy in both Grayson and Snellville. Alot depends on how my daughter does in school this coming 9 wks to see if Snellville is the right fit for our family and our daughter..I am impressed with the school so far and have met each of her teachers and I think they are very hard working and committed to the students(at least mine from what I can tell)...She likes it and is adjusting well, time will tell. She does miss her friends etc and her old school but I think given time she will do just fine and make alot of new friends too.
I think Grayson and Snellville are very good choices and you are right..the houses here in Georgia are HUGE....and then GIGANTIC...at least in the former New Englanders( just moved from Naples Florida) point of view...and much more family orientated areas as well as reasonable rents/morgages and taxes and insurance..
Good Luck,
Anything I can do to help just PM me..
Take care
Lisa

No one wants to move to this area across highway 124, and one reason is because of the schools. The best of luck to you.

Uh...actually the Shiloh cluster is known as Gwinnett/Snellville's best kept secret. Great neighborhoods, not-as-crowded, smaller schools, diverse population...all in the shadow of beautiful Stone Mountain!

Could Shiloh's diversity been a problem for you? The tone of your message reveals your true thoughts.

Default To Snellville..???

Has everyone who's lived in Snellville failed to warn her of the atrocious Hwy 78 Reversible Lane Change System???

For people moving from places and have never been acclimated to terrible traffic... From Stone Mountain all the way into Loganville can be a nightmare no matter what time of the day or night!

I moved to Stone Mountain (Gwinnett Co. at 5 Forks/Rockbridge Rd. area) at the age of 4...Went to Parkview and we graduated about 400 or so in 1987! I have heard that Meadowcreek and Shiloh, as well as Cental Gwinnett have really gone down hill. Now, with 2 children, one in 10th grade and one in 7th, I'm living the simple town life in NW GA! I wouldn't have all of that traffic again!!!

But they're also right about going further north in Gwinnett... Buford, Mill Creek, or even East a bit, like Loganville are much better schools than they used to be!!

Hi there,
I am a former New Englander as well(although I moved to FL four yrs ago) and I just recently moved to Snellville GA(1 month ago) and I LOVE IT!!!.
What are area you looking to move? Do you have kids? Are you looking to buy? What are you looking for as far as area, schools, conviences, local? I think Snellville is a great place to live and we have found the people and places to be very friendly and welcoming. We are renters right now but we are actively looking for a home to purchase here in Snellville as well. We have narrowed our list to three houses..and found a perfect one if all works out we will be moving to a permanant home in the next couple of months here in Snellville as well..
Anything I can help you with dont hesitate to ask and if I dont know I can find out what you need or find someone who can....
Take Care.
Lisa
