Doraville Schools
My wife's grandma has a house in Doraville that we can live in if we want to move to the Atlanta area. We have a 1 year old, so we're concerned w/the schools for the future if we decide to live in her house long term. It's zoned for Evansdale Elementary - Henderson Mill Middle - Lakeside High. Are these schools pretty good for the area?
The location is terrific w/access to I-85 and I-285, but we were also wondering about the safety of that particular area. It's near Henderson Mill Rd. and Evans Rd. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I can't comment on the area, because I live in a different area right now. However, where I am the middle school and high school are the same. From what I have heard the middle school is really good. The high school is also supposed to be one of the best in the state. The area I am in now is nice, very diverse but I feel very safe in it. If I were you, I would just come down to Atlanta and spend a few days or a weekend in the house and see how you feel about the neighborhood.

I went to college at Tech, but didn't spend much time in that area. I suppose if I felt safe on North Ave, then I would feel safe up there =) I've read other good comments about Henderson Middle and Lakeside High (my mother in law actually went to those schools too), but I haven't heard much about Evansdale Elementary. Anyone have experience w/this school?

Moving tothe area, evansdale and safety
To find out about the schools visit dekalb county school website, as far as the saftety of the community, it's in the eyes of the beholder. Look at the gated community of SURGARLOAF COUNTRY CLUB you never know who's living in your community. Just live freely, and stop beening afraid.

My stepsister lives in the Evans Rd area and her son is in this school cluster. Evansdale was a great experience and he is flourishing in his second year at Henderson. I'd say it's a good bet.

That's a nice, older brick ranch neighborhood that dates from the 60's. It should be fine, and you are right - it is a super convenient location.
