Thoughts on Tucker
Anyone know anything aout Tucker??
How are the schools?
Family friendly and safe?
Walkable - not just sidewalks, but places to go (ice cream shop, coffee, lunch and dinner places....similar to Decatur)
Different housing types (Craftsman, Dutch Colonial, Ranch etc all in one place)
and....how would a commute be to Midtown or Downtown? - I found some info on this from previous posts...sounds like 25 to 35 minutes, sound right?
Has the LCI (Livable Cities Initiative) affected development in the downtown area?
I would like Decatur, but if Tucker is similar to Decatur and more reasonably priced its worth a look i suppose....assuming the stock market doesnt continue to tank!
Thanks!!

Tucker is not much like Decatur. There are no craftsman homes in Tucker, unless you consider the new jumbo-craftsman style homes to be bungalows.
Commute to downtown is 25-30 minutes of drive time, no need to use the interstate.
Tucker is definitely safe and family friendly. Schools are better than the average for the Dekalb school system.
LCI has not affected the downtown area yet. There has been ZERO new development in the downtown area, but that is supposedly going to get underway early next year.
Tucker is getting a new high school (a replacement for the current one, not an additonal school) and a new public library next year.
Tucker is a good place to live, but I don't think it's what you're looking for since you mentioned Decatur three times.

Yeah, I like Decatur, just dont think we can afford it, I'm am just trying to scope out the next best thing to Decatur with out a huge commute to downtown/midtown area.
seems like if the LCI takes off Tucker could become a more walkable area and much sought after...just need to get MARTA out there...
Thanks!!

I'm in the same boat. I love Decatur, but I can't afford it either.
There are a lot of reasons to think Tucker is one of the next hot-spots.
I think commuter rail on the existing railroad lines is far more likely than a Marta rail in Tucker. I'd be happy to see either one of those become a reality. You can see the proposed commuter/express rail through Tucker (and up to Athens) on the Citizens for Progressive Transit site:

wow that would be nice...I think Sonny would have a heart attack if he saw that!
Yeah, I think Tucker has a great framework for the LCI to really work well.

The obvious response to that statement would probably get me banned from this board.

I had to resurrect this thread.
Newer members...take a look at the CfPT site/map/vision. Amazing. Opinions? Thoughts? I'd like to hear...
I personally had no idea transportation planning in Metro Atlanta had been this extensive. What are we waiting for?
It is pretty d**n good, I think. The only things I'd change is to make the Bus Rapid Transit light rail instead...and add more stations (and maybe a few more transit lines) in key places throughout the Metro Area.

Rail from Tucker to CDC/Emory is the last thing we need! Tucker is already becoming a CDC/Emory ghetto--people too smart for their own good.
