Hello, everyone
I am looking for some information that my county tax folks seem ignorant about. I moved within Atlanta, but from Dekalb to Fulton. What do I need to do about my car registration? I've called the Fulton county tax office and they have given me 3 different answers the 3 different times I called (one said to come in with proof of residency and the license plate, another said to fax a form along with car title, but no proof of residency, and another said I just had to update my drivers license and they took care of the rest). When I moved from Clarke to Dekalb I didn't have to do anything, and online searches usually lead me to pages for new residents to the state.

Anyone has the right info on this? Any help would be appreciated.

When we moved from Fayette to Cobb, I think all I did was take the current registration card (the thing you get every year with your stickers after you have paid that identifies the vehicle and the thing you are suppose to keep in your glove box) along with proof of residency to the tax office. They just issued me a new registration card. No taxes due. You also get new county-name stickers for your plate. But, this has been a few years ago.

Doesn't make sense that they need your license plate. Doesn't make sense they would make the change off of your drivers license change of address. But, then again, alot doesn't make sense anymore.

thank you. I guess we will take that to the tax office and if it's not that, at least they'll point me in the right direction.

Just did this in January. Moved from Fulton to Cobb. Change your driver's license first. You can do this online. Then take the registration along with your driver's license to the tag office. Your license and tag are supposed to match.

When we moved from DeKalb to Cobb last year we were able to do everything on the website, changing the address on your drivers license is the first step

Moved from Fulton to Forsyth. Changed license online and tag via a phone call and one email. I'm sure some counties are more difficult.
