not a single cops/dmvs vehicle on my trip today. i also noticed several spots where the cameras dont reg.

so i guess the hov is still my personal passing lane

with 0 cars in it, the price was .40$ per mile. i laughed.

and it ends where, at 316? uhm ok but anybody travelling 85 knows it doesnt let go until commerce ga when it really gets blocked. even more fail in both design and execution

Although my distaste for the project rivals yours, you do realize it is Sunday?

I don't understand the opposition to the HOT lanes, unless you happen to be a car pooler. If you don't like them, don't use them. Otherwise it's the same as always.

Did you read the article that I linked to when I started this thread?

It won't be the "same as always" for those who don't use the lanes. It will probably be worse.

I did read the article but I thought it said there should be no discernible impact. If it does make things worse, that's a different story.

I still think it's a mistake to toll two person vehicles.

The study that was conducted to support the HOT lane concept claimed there would be no discernible impact. Of course that could mean "it's so gridlocked already that you won't really notice if there's more cars."

Yes, and that's the crux of the problem. Now that 2-person vehicles have to pay, many of them will simply shift back to using the lanes you're using. And, since there is no longer any incentive for them to inconvenience themselves by carpooling, each occupant will just take his or her own car. Which means realistically there will be TWO additional cars in your lanes for every 2-person car pool that decides not to pay the toll.

From the article:
Quote:
The state’s own traffic (http://g.ajc.com/r/GT/ - broken link) and revenue study says the regular lanes are expected to gain up to 90 new vehicles per lane, per hour during rush hour, and at one location 120, making for traffic (http://g.ajc.com/r/GT/ - broken link) volumes of about 1,200 to 1,500 cars per hour in each lane.
Do you still think it won't affect you?

I go up 85 maybe once every two weeks during non-rush and always have 3+ in the car (meaning free to use). I see you have to deposit $20 in an account just to get started, though. I'm leaning towards not bothering, but I know the one time there is an accident I'll be kicking myself for not doing it.
