Well, if you look where most of the nicer, newer homes are going up, they're right on the Cobb line not out in Dallas and Hiram although there's plenty of nices home out that way.

I'm a software developer and work downtown and live in Acworth. I work from home once a week and some half-days. I also have the ability to hop on the express bus that takes me right to my door at work.

This is not the norm for most people though. Most likely you'll have to drive, and in my experience most IT places only allow 1 day to work from home, if they allow it all.
I do both, mostly sysadmin and networking though. How long does the express bus take door to door?

Well, my schedule is pretty flexible, but during the peek hours I'd say it averages around 55 - 65 minutes. Once they get an HOV lane in Cobb that will definately change.

Off peak about 45-55 minutes but it also makes an extra stop at Busbee Parkway during this time. So it would be around 35-45 w/o the extra stop to go 30 miles.

I'd look at GE, they're right off that route, I talked to a guy on the bus that works for them, said several people are starting to retire so they'll need people, he does sysadmin type of work and he seems to take off-peak routes himself.

We are moving from Macon toward Atlanta and my husband is in the IT industry as well but as a consultant so he travels. I like the Acworth and Kennesaw areas. I was worried at first about if he switched jobs where it might be located but Acworth has the park n ride so i have been told to go downtown and the other major IT areas around Alpharetta you "could" take 92 from I have been told.

Everyone has told me no matter where you live you will have around a 45 to 1 and half hour commute so adjust your work hours if you can.....

That area is very nice and newer and the schools are awesome from all my research and talking with others. West Cobb vs. East Cobb was something we researched but because of price of houses, and age and new growth we liked west cobb better. The education our children will receive will be SUPERB compared to where we are now and we don't start kindergarten til next year and are trying to settle before then.

The only other place we considered was Peachtree City but due to location of jobs even in Alpharetta that wasn't as feasible.

We also have family in Acworth and they love it there. Hope this helps. There are also many church preschools around in that area too!

Good luck!
