I think it has to do with the fact that most people with "real" money live in the city as do the poor. The "new" money(people with high income, low net worth) generally go to places like Alpharetta, Peachtree City, Duluth, etc. I would also say most middle class people go to the suburbs too. So I am not really surprised by the gap in Atlanta. When you compare the urban schools of other cities with Atlanta's, Atlanta's are much nicer. Have you seen some urban schools in Los Angeles! So at least APS is funded well enough that poor students are able to attend facilities equivelent to the schools in the suburbs.

That article is BS. Cities with the largest gap are cities with a higher cost of living. NYC, LA, DC, etc gap is wayyyyyy larger than Atlanta

Oh, there is nothing cut rate about the per pupil funding in large urban school systems.

Agreed. In Atlanta like NYC, LA or London the real rich live close to the poor. Go to the wealthiest ZIP by net worth 30327 and you have the projects very close by on the westside for example.

I live on the westside not in 30327 which is northern but wanted to note that even in my neighborhood which is bad in 30318 we don't have any projects. They were all torn down and none of them were near 30327.

Well I may be mistaken but a friend lives off Moores Mill 30327 in a million plus house and a few streets from him it looks really dodgy. Maybe not projects but certainly interesting street traffic..........

Probably low class/section 8 apartments and not projects them. Not sure of the difference.
