Kennesaw Mayor Mark Mathews has announced a partnership with celebrity skateboarder and philanthropist Rob Dyrdek’s foundation to design and build an estimated $1.2 million, 40,000-square-foot skate park in the city’s Swift-Cantrell Park, reports the Marietta Daily Journal.

Gwinnett has included skate parks in some of its county parks for a while now. They always seem busy.

I doubt any of them cost $1.2 million, though, and I don't think they are anywhere near 40,000 square feet. So this one sounds a lot better.

I hope they do it right. That dog park at Newtown Park in Johns Creek was built with $500,000 in prize money from Beneful and it's really not any better than county dog parks which I'm sure didn't cost nearly that.

Boys need a venue in which to skate. Skate Parks are a good idea. It keeps them off sidewalks and private property, and it gives them a place to hang out and stay out of trouble.

Too bad it's all the way up in Kennesaw. Another one inside the perimeter would have been nicer.
