Default rain

I am considering moving to the Peachtree City area. I lived in Portland area too long and am completely adverse to the rainy weather. Please describe the climate in Atlanta area. I do not want rainy days.

Do you like having a drought every summer?

If you don't want rainy days you should move to San Diego. Atlanta has plenty of sunshine but its fair share of rain as well. Overall there are more sunny days than rainy ones, especially compared to the pacific northwest. But we get rainy spells and winters can be dreary. It doesn't last long though.

Sounds like you should be considering Las Vegas instead of Atlanta. We only got 20 or so days with rain every year there.

Peachtree City is a great place to live. it is growing and has a lot of new construction to handle it. It is known for its golfcart sidewalks to the local shopping areas. It is close to Interstate 85 for commuting around Atlanta and is a couple of exits from the Shannon Mall area or 30 minutes up Hwy 54 to the Southlake mall area. Lots of new communities and house inventory here. It also contains a lot of Delta airline emplyees because of its location to the airport. Ga. has great weather, yes we are in a drought, but we do have 4 seasons, hot in summer, medium cold in winter and sometimes snow, and has a long fall and spring seasons. It stays 60 to 80 4 to 7 months a year here. It does have rain but mostly in the summer afternoon thunderstorms. Let me know if I can help with more info or any other needs you may have...Bill

I second the Vegas suggestion if you hate rain. Of course, you have to like big hairy desert spiders and scorpions, though.

Atlanta is a city of "extremes" in every sense of the word. Extreme traffic. Extreme smog. Extreme money. Extreme parties. Whatever... Atlanta is just extreme, and it actually rolls over into the weather, too. You either have weeks with little to no rain and 100 degree temps with high humidity (as in lately here), or, you have what the weather men here call "rain events", where it'll rain for pretty much nonstop 24 hours (or more during the tropical storm season or some years in Spring). It's nice and pretty, or, tornado warnings. You get the idea. Word of the day again - "extreme".

Seattle is known for rain, but actually, I think I read that overall Atlanta gets about the same amount of rain they do - it's just that we get it less frequently but in longer-lasting rain events (as described above) rather than an occasional shower that only lasts a few minutes. Portland has more "grey days" (mist, drizzle, damp). Personally I like those. Nice and cool.

You want little to no rain? I agree - Vegas. Or Reno. Maybe Idaho - they have big potatoes and not a ton of rain I think.

I agree, in Atlanta, when it does rain, it rains and storms...we have gotten storms everyday this week and part of last week...either it's extremely dry or extremely rainy, humid, and stormy. But, the good thing about it is it's mostly in the summer and spring...but, for the past couple of years, we've gotten spring weather in the winter..i.e., thunderstorms in January and that's RARE. Most people like the weather here though...global warming I guess.
