What? This proposed tax is only for the ATL metro area.

Well said. I don't like name calling, whether it comes from the right or the left.

The transportation tax is narrow and specific. It's biggest proponents are businesses in the private sector, because they know that unless this gets done we're going to fall further and further behind. We simply won't survive as a leading area when we're 49th in transportation investment.

Opposing this "because it's a tax" is extremely short sighted. Why kill the goose that laid the golden egg? Our outstanding transportation infrastructure is a major part of what has made Atlanta so attractive for business and private enterprise and personal wealth creation. If you can leverage the government into assisting with this -- and that's exactly what this SPLOST does -- that's the ideal situation.

Moreover, as I've said before, this is extremely time sensitive. Transportation infrastructure is only realized over a 10+ year cycle, and we're already way behind the eight ball. What we vote for next spring should have been started 10 or 15 years ago. Everybody else is doing it, while we sit here in 49th place.

What is the point in deliberately and stubbornly marching ourselves to the rear of economic prosperity, opportunity and freedom?

It seems to me talking with people that the majority of the ones opposed to the tax have no idea what projects are on the list and what the impact of those projects are. How can people oppose something they have no idea about? I have done my research, read the entire list, attend a couple meetings and talked with MARTA officials.

This should have said, "This isn't a tax where south Ga is getting taxed for ATLs benifit, instead it's taxing ATL for ATL"

The isn't was dropped, but I figured a smart person may have noodled that out by the end of the sentence ".. instead it's taxing ATL for ATL"

Wait, what? You mean to tell me you know the political or social affiliation of EVERYONE you ever socialize with, even strangers? Where can I get me some of THAT?

Pretty much, I do. When there are strangers I parse my words carefully, as engaging in political battle with unknown folk really doesn’t serve any useful purpose.

What does "big un" mean? Are you talking about me? I'm a 5'4" 130lb woman. The only place I'm EVER considered big is in Vietnam. And I say this because I've been there and they called me big.

As for the N-word, let's be honest, that's the lowest word a non-black person can use to refer to a black person, wouldn't you agree? I didn't say meanest. I said low. For the speaker. Would you agree that's true? Would you EVER approve of the use of that word outside of artistic expression (here I am thinking of some classic literature, notably Mark Twain)?

Have you ever heard that word spoken in the derogatory? Did you let it pass? I have not. I have objected, often to no avail. Afterall, I was born and raised in the Deep South.

I'm not accusing you of using that word when you're assured you're not in mixed company. I'm querying you.

Ive been to Vietnam. Mostly in Ho Chi Minh City/Saigon, and surrounding areas. At 6’1 and 215 plus I was a relative giant. Consider Big Un a term of endearment J

Its amazing how much power black people give white people with regard the n word. Do blacks care that much what white people think about them? I guess they do. Does the n word make them feel bad about themselves? The only things that hurt, in my experience, are things that have truth in them. Call Brad Pitt ugly or Brian Urlacher a sissy. They woulnt care.

Meanwhile black people frequently refer to whites as rednecks, crackers or trailer trash. I don’t really care, cause Im not.

You could easily lead people to believe what you want about you. Swallow your pride. Or don't.

I am who I am. People either like me or don’t. There are plenty who do, I don’t fret about the rest.

No, those slurs are lame. They're unimaginative and painless. They're painless BECAUSE they're unimaginative. They're nowhere NEAR reality, which makes them a farce. You'd do waaaaaaaay better if you came up with a name that reflects the way he's disappointed other liberals. Because we all know conservatives were always going to hate him. That's a big no-duh. But a whole lot of liberals put him up on a pedestal (not me) and they've crashed and burn since it turns out he's just a man and the reality of being President means you really can't just do whatever you want.

But, hey, I worked for BOTH Presidents so I already knew that.

You mean like what Neil Bortz called him today, while I was driving to a lunch? Communist! Commie Pinko. A Socialist, who wants to destroy this country. Etc. You get the idea.

The fact that he has disappointed liberals is nothing less than terrifying. The chasm between my cadre and those folk is huge. The coming election is a battle for the soul of this country. If he wins I shudder at the consequences.

What is all this socialist and Communist stuff that has happened under Obama? To me it all seems like the same guff we've been getting for 40 years.

Obama is not a communist. Anyone who seriously thinks that is under a delusion from talking heads, and such a person is one who seriously doesn't "get it".

A communist would have nationalized the problem industries during the financial crisis as many other countries (which are still not really communist) did. Instead, he preserved private ownership. His campaign was bankrolled by Wall Street, he extended the Bush tax cuts, and in reality he's just as much of a corporatist as our past presidents.
